The Friendship Group at UCG was created over a decade ago for teens and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The purpose of the group is to create a caring environment in which each member has the opportunity to share concerns, express support, give encouragement to each other and find ways to fully participate in the life and service of UCG. The Friendship Group is an important part of UCG’s church community. The class plans and participates in a wide variety of spiritual, social and outreach activities throughout the year. The Friendship Group meets on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month at 11:15am in Room 8.

The 5th Wave of Conservation: Where Nature and Food Production Meet*

March 26 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm
West Wing, 1624 NW 5th Ave
Gainesville, FL 32603 United States

* pre-registered adult small group “The industrial agriculture we have developed and now rely upon places us in an unwinnable contest against established natural systems. In this view, nature is to be subdued or ignored. But we do so at our increasing peril, threatening the very existence of complex natural systems and the human populations that rely upon them for food.”  - Wes Jackson of The Land Institute. Eating is an agricultural act. Whether you are a vegan, a vegetarian or an omnivore, supporting local, sustainable food production from farms and ranches that are managed for land health, biodiversity and human well-being, is essential if we are to protect and replenish healthy ecosystems, deal with climate change, and with the potential dismantling of many of our environmental protections by the incoming president and congress. Discuss ways we can eat, invest, and create local policies as acts of Resistance. Nancy Deren is a personal finance coach and life transition planner in Gainesville. She is a member of various organizations working to address converging issues of ecology, energy, climate, and money. * pre-registered adult small group Leader: Nancy Deren Date: Sunday, Mar 26 Time: 12:30-2:30pm Place: UCG West Wing
