In the Mommy Reads program, UCG volunteers take several hundred children’s books to the Florida Women’s Reception Center, a large women’s prison about thirty minutes south of Gainesville. The UCG volunteers help the mothers there pick out age-appropriate books for their children, and record the women reading the books. The books and recordings are then sent to the children on the outside.

Children’s books for ages baby through young adult are always needed. To assist with selection, a wish list has been set up on Amazon Smile. To access the wish list, click on Lists on the top right of the Amazon landing page. Select Find a List from the drop-down menu, enter UCG Mommy Reads in the search box, and a list of books will be available for your selection.  Books will be shipped directly to UCG. Confirmation of receipt is possible, if you list your name and email (or mailing address) in the gift section of the Wish List. Cards recognizing your donation are available in the UCG office. If you have questions regarding your donation or purchase for Mommy Reads, please contact the church office at

Frequently Asked Questions re Online Pledging/Giving:

Q. What are the major advantages of electronic giving by direct debit?
A. Direct debit is all about convenience for you and consistency for the church. Electronic giving eliminates frequent check writing and helps members stay on track with pledges even when they are unable to attend services. UCG, in turn, benefits from much-needed donation consistency and a reduction in the volume of check and cash contributions that must be handled and manually processed in the church office.

Q. How does Direct Debit Giving Work?
A. Contributions are transferred automatically from your checking or savings account to the church’s bank account.

Q. Is giving by direct debit risky?
A. It is certainly less risky than writing checks or carrying cash to church. To process electronic donations, the church uses Vanco Services, LLC-an established an highly-regarded company that moves funds directly from church members to the church on the same day without any delay. Vanco processes contributions for more than 10,000 churches and nonprofit organizations.

Q. How much does direct debit giving cost?
A. It costs you nothing and it costs the church 25 cents per transaction. It is the lowest cost method of transferring funds.

Q. How much does giving via credit card cost?
A. Giving by credit card costs you nothing, but the credit card company charges the church approximately 3%-4% of your donation amount.  You might consider increasing your pledge to cover that cost, or switching to Direct Debit giving.

Q. What if I try electronic giving and don’t like it?
A. You can cancel your authorization at any time by logging into you Vanco account, or by notifying Catherine, our church accountant, at
