April 12 – “Defending Voting Rights with Howard Simon”
Howard Simon served as Executive Director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida from 1997 thru 2018.
He led the organization through numerous battles involving voting rights, abortion rights, privacy and separation of church & state.
He will discuss the assault we are now confronting to the to the rule of law, First Amendment values, the demonization and attack on immigrant communities and electoral democracy.
He will focus on strategies for working together to defend our democracy in the face of authoritarian attacks.
The former ACLU Executive Director states, “There is no giving up on Democracy.”

April 19 – “Giving Now and Leaving a Legacy – strategies for supporting UCG during your life and planning for after you’re gone”.
Alan Hill, Chair of the Board of Business, and Scott Anderson, estate planning attorney, will talk about ways to support your church through current charitable giving strategies as well as legacy gifts through (simple) estate planning. They will also promote broader topics on estate planning, avoiding probate court, establishing authority in non-traditional families, and the importance of having advanced directives for healthcare and financial decision-making during your lifetime.

April 26 – “An Uncertain Life: Growing up Gay and Southern Baptist,” with author Charles Michael Brill as our guest speaker- Charles Michael Brill was born during the early days of the Civil Rights Movement in Mobile, Alabama. He accepted Christ at 13, was called to ministry during high school, ordained while in college. He graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. For most of the next decade and a half he worked in various ministry positions and eventually, he left the SBC. With that change came the freedom to finally be his authentic self. For the last 30 years he worked in finance, and lived his life more authentically as an out gay man. Come hear his spiritual journey.
