Seekers of God However Known is a UCG program focused on fostering spiritual growth by exploring a variety of spiritual topics, concepts, practices, and perspectives. Sessions will take place on Sundays from 9 – 9:45 a.m. in Reimer Hall unless otherwise noted. Everyone is welcome.
May 10: Rev. Dr. Talia Raymond, “Wind and Fire”, how the story of Pentecost, (also known as the birthday of the church), informs our calling to be the church in our community and world.
May 17: Jim Harper, “Forest Bathing as a Spiritual Practice” This method of lingering with mindfulness in a natural area comes from the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku. Formalized in the 1980’s, it evokes primal awe and respect for nature as experienced through the senses. UCG members have practiced this art as a small group, and it connected us both to nature and each other. Deceptively simple, forest bathing challenges us to slow down, disconnect from technology, and re-connect with the more-than-human world in profound ways. Try a small-scale version here and discuss the experience with fellow travelers.
May 24: Holiday weekend—No Seekers program
May 31: Rev. Ellen Ribe, “The Grief Journey” It’s quite the journey: from anticipatory, to the initial shock, to adjustment….and the ongoing shudders. Community becomes essential in the processing, and there we find the divine.
