Seekers of God However Known is a UCG program focused on fostering spiritual growth by exploring a variety of spiritual topics, concepts, practices, and perspectives. Sessions will take place on Sundays from 9 – 9:45 a.m. in Reimer Hall unless otherwise noted. Everyone is welcome.
October 4: Joyce Orr, “Holy Longing”
Mystics throughout the ages and from a variety of traditions have expressed
their experiences of a state of deep, inner yearning for Oneness with God. We
will consider their experiences, as well as our own, and share with one
another the ways this holy thirst arises, the ways it is quenched, and how we
are altered through the experience.
October 11: Rev. Dr. Talia Raymond “Pet Blessing”
Rev. Dr. Talia Raymond will discuss about pet blessings at 9 a.m. Then at 4 p.m. join her for a pet blessing service for our pets. Please bring your pets to this courtyard! If it would not be a blessing for your pet to attend, photos are also welcome. Please come and join us!
October 18: Rev. Dr. Marta Fioriti and Rev. Roger Butts, “Praying the
Poets”
Roger is compiling chapters from diverse authors exploring what it means to
“pray the poets.” Join us to hear how contemporary religious leaders engage
this question, including Marta’s chapter, “You Don’t Have to Be Good,” which
explores Mary Oliver’s Wild Geese through the lens of Intersectional
Feminism.
October 25: Sue Hatch and Kristin Larsen, “How Do Monks Stay Connected
with God?”
Steven Lawson is the author and founder of a special kind of daily planner called,
“The Monk Manual”. We began using this planner nearly five years ago and would
like to share how the application of a few simple principles from it have helped us
to live fuller and more spiritually focused lives. In this planner, Lawson effectively
combines the wisdom of monks with key psychological elements that encourage us
to live each day focusing on, “…gratitude, awareness, intentional action, presence,
personal growth, giving, listening and loving.” (Monk Manual) Each attendee will
receive a free copy of a daily page and have the opportunity to fill it out and
discuss it in small groups.
