The Sunday Seminar Committee is pleased to announce the line-up of seminars for September. Seminars are in person and on Zoom on Sundays at 11:30 a.m.
October 4 – Pride Sunday
Along with a Pride Brunch, Robert Chapman and Elizabeth Husband, board members of the local PFLAG organization will present a seminar about activities of the local group – the nation’s largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and their loved ones. Previously the name, PFLAG stood for Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. The local Gainesville chapter notes on their website that they are “Working together to help LGBTQ+ youth and adults in Gainesville and surrounding areas feel safe, celebrated, empowered and loved.”
October 11 – No Seminar scheduled
October 18 – Congregational Meeting
October 25 – Lost Boys of Sudan
Presented by Jacob Atem PhD MPH. Dr Atem fled Sudan as an orphan boy, survived a trek across Africa and ultimately came to the US in 2001. We will be able to hear his story of survival and determination in spite of all the challenges he faced. He is the cofounder of the Southern Sudan Healthcare Organization. His PhD is from the University of Florida Department of Environmental and Global Health.
