It is impossibly hard to say goodbye to our beloved UCG after 50 years of history together, powerful worship, deep fellowship, Prayer Group, seminars and kids’ Sunday School—and all those years of fabulous in-person retreats!

We are grateful for your kind notes, best wishes, and prayers as we move to a retirement community in Durham, N.C. We will be 20 minutes from our son, Jonathan, his wife, Louise and his three children in Chapel Hill; 40 minutes from our daughter Christina and her daughter in Raleigh; and “only” a 4-hour hour drive from daughter Ellen and her husband and two children in Bethesda.

At least for a while, we will be “snow-birds:” keeping a bit of furniture in our apartment in Gainesville for our return in January-February. And thank heaven for Zoom and phones for staying in touch!

We send our love and prayers to UCG and all of you—and a promise to see you soon (hopefully, in person.)

Love,

Catherine & Sanford Berg

  1. I wish you both well in your new home. I’m sure it will be wonderful for both you two and for your family to now have them so much closer. But we will all miss you both! And will so look forward to whenever you are able to return.

And I’m so sorry I wasn’t able to be at or play drums for you departure. I would have loved to be able to give you both a big goodbye hug!

  4. Your presence at UCG over the years has enriched the church and all its members in countless ways. And I always reflect back on my time in our women’s group, Catherine, and the depth and care of your leadership during those years. I wish you both rich blessings on your journey and precious times being closer to your children and grandchildren!

  5. It is impossibly hard to say, “Goodbye” to you. I simply can’t, so I will say, “Thank you.” Thank you for the loving way you treated me and my sisters when we were children in the small UCG of the early 1970’s. Thank you for welcoming me home to UCG in 1995. Thank you for the graceful, respectful, kind way you’ve supported and guided our church family for fifty years. And, thank you for honoring both my mother and my sister when they passed from this life. With love and blessings to you both, in this exciting new chapter. Always, Elizabeth
