The Justice League: A Work in Progress

The Justice League – focused on Racial Justice, Creation and Climate Justice, and Open and Affirming (ONA) support – is undergoing a transformation. We’re shifting from traditional monthly meetings to a more dynamic structure, similar to ONA and Kairos. Instead of regular meetings, we’ll have small groups, activities, and task-based volunteering opportunities. This change aims to solve two key challenges: a shortage of leaders and low interest in monthly commitments. Our goal remains the same: building the “beloved community” – but now in a more effective, engaging way.

As Rev. Dr. Donna says, “Go BIG!” – so let’s tackle ICE!

At a recent seminar, Adriana Menendez from the Rural Women’s Health Project shared the heartbreaking reality faced by families affected by immigration enforcement. When a family’s main breadwinner is detained or deported, mothers live in fear, unable to leave their homes, and struggle to provide essentials like food, diapers, and medical care. These families need transportation to hearings, prenatal appointments, and grocery trips, with accompaniment to avoid Immigration and Custom Enforcement encounters.

You can help – in ways big or small. Next time you shop, could you buy an extra bag of rice or diapers to donate? Prefer to give financially? Visit rwhp.org and click “donate.” Can you provide a ride, host a family during a hurricane, or write to the City Commission urging them not to cooperate with ICE? Even supporting local Latin-owned restaurants makes a difference.
