4forFairFood Tour: No more 4 for $4, how about 1 penny more!
Join UF students and the broader Gainesville community for the 4 for Fair Food Tour March for Farmworker Justice at UF on March 14th as we demand that UF put their principles into action, and stand up for basic dignity and respect for Florida’s farmworkers.
UF’s mission statement reads:
“…We are The Gator Nation, a diverse community dedicated to excellence in education and research and shaping a better future for Florida, the nation and the world. Our mission is to enable our students to lead and influence the next generation and beyond for economic, cultural and societal benefit.”
Yet UF has dismissed calls from Florida farmworkers and hundreds of UF students to cut its contract with Wendy’s, a corporation that refuses to ensure that the farmworkers in their supply chain work free of wage theft, sexual violence and modern-day slavery in the state of Florida, the nation and the around the world.

4 for Fair Food Tour | From March 2-14, 2019, farmworkers from Immokalee, Florida, will travel across the country to four of the country’s top public universities – the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Ohio State University in Columbus, and the University of Florida in Gainesville – to join students and community members in calling on these institutions to end their relationships with Wendy’s until the fast-food giant joins the award-winning Fair Food Program. Young people, community leaders, and farmworkers are calling for a national boycott of the hamburger chain, demanding that, instead of cheap “4 for $4” deals, Wendy’s put human rights on the menu.
NATIONAL ALLIES: We’re making the call for national allies to converge in Ohio and Florida for the two major events of the tour: March 8 (International Women’s Day) in Columbus and March 14 in Gainesville. If you are planning to join CIW and thousands of national supporters at this year’s major Wendy’s Boycott mobilization, be sure to sign up. http://bit.ly/Register-4forFF
The time is NOW for universities and their administrative leaders to have responsibility and send a clear unequivocal message to Wendy’s: Until you put human rights on the menu, you cannot sell food on our campus.
