With fall in the air, we move toward what some of us (me) hope will be a cooler season, and the exciting challenge of how to “do normal” in what remains an uncertain period. Our UCG community – ministers, staff, volunteers, and the wider ring of those of us who may be more-or-less distanced from the everyday workings of church – we’re all stretching ourselves, doing the best we can. We know this is true in our personal financial lives, but sometimes we forget that it’s also true for the communities we care about. As of the end of August, our giving had kept abreast of the church’s necessary expenses, but the expense side is pulling ahead. For me this is a “heads up” time. If, like me, you haven’t been physically present at UCG much in the past months, maybe it’s slipped your mind that the expenses of our church family continue. Maybe you’ve been meaning to write a check, or to log on to ShelbyNext to send a payment toward your pledge. May I respectfully invite you to STOP right here, and follow through with that excellent intention. It takes each of us, doing the best we can. Together we are part of the community of hearts, minds, and spirits that come together, each and all. Together, we are UCG. Looking forward (soon, I hope!) to seeing YOU in church.
