January 8 –Braver Angels: How to Talk to Someone with Opposing Political Viewpoints – Steve House, Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives for Braver Angels, will share with us his thoughts on basic approaches to solving political polarization at the community, family, and church levels including discussions about how individuals can solve these problems between one another. He will share his experiences about one-on-one conversations he has had through the Braver Angels process, with people who are on the opposite side of the political spectrum from him. He will also discuss the outcomes reaped through Braver Angel workshops in multiple types of settings. “Braver Angels… brings together conservatives and progressives on equal terms to understand our differences, find common ground where it exists, and help the country we all love find a better way” to communicate. January 15 – Join us for a conversation with installation artist Glen Purdy. Glen has been creating larger-than-life art since he was a young man. Currently, he loves working with discarded PVC to mold incredible mobiles– including the current piece he crafted just for our Sanctuary and our worship theme, “Taking Flight.”
January 22 – We are honored to have UF Law Professor Stacey Steinberg discuss her bestselling parenting book, “Growing Up Shared: How Parents Can Share Smarter on Social Media and What You Can Do to Keep Your Family Safe in a No-Privacy World.” “Sharenting” is the practice of parents publicizing sensitive content about their children on internet platforms and Professor Steinberg’s book on the subject has been quoted in the New York Times and Washington Post. Don’t miss the chance to hear about this critical topic that affects anyone with a child or grandchild, niece or nephew.
