Events in the Greater Community

The Alachua County Crisis Center provides free and confidential crisis response services to Gainesville and the surrounding community of Alachua County, almost all of which are provided by highly trained volunteers. Volunteering with the Crisis Center is a great way to support our community and those in need; while also learning valuable communication skills you can use for the rest of your life.

Training starts on Saturday, June 1st, and is over 60 hours over the course of eight weeks. Volunteers learn crisis intervention and suicide prevention skills, which prepares them to answer phones on the National Suicide Prevention Hotline (988) and our local crisis hotline. The training is free and is conducted entirely online.

Opening Event – Alachua County Community Remembrance Project Exhibit honoring Victims of Racial Violence

Who: Alachua County Community Remembrance Project

What: Grand opening of exhibit

Where:12 SE 1st St., the west lawn of the County Administration Building

When: June 1, 2024, 1:00pm to 3:00pm

With speakers, music, and food, the Alachua County Community Remembrance Project (ACCRP) welcomes all to the opening of a new exhibit in the lobby of the Alachua County Commission Building.

Between 1882 and 1930 Florida had the highest rate of lynchings per capita. This exhibit tells the truth about our history, and the legacy it created of racial inequity we continue to struggle with today. With music by Gospel Meets Jazz, and food from Germain’s, and Rastafar-Ice, we invite you to join us as we begin this work of truth and reconciliation.

Unspoken Treasure Society, an organization dedicated to ensuring that every Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming voice of marginalized communities is heard, meets on the 2nd Tuesdays of every month.
