The Racial Justice Committee (RJC) is planning several fall events.
On September 22, We will be hosting a Banned Books Reception in the UCG Library after the service. The RJC has been adding to the Banned Book Section over the past year, and wants the congregation to be aware of the kinds of books that Florida school districts are banning. All are encouraged to come to this special reception.
We hope to join with Creation Justice and ONA to host a Candidate’s Corner after the August 20th primary. Those candidates, selected after the primary, will be encouraged to come to UCG one Sunday prior to the General Election to meet with congregants who want to know more about their stances on relevant issues.
RJC members are also planning to present a fall banned book discussion group.
We do plan to continue selling our “new” Black History Matters shirts in November and December, so that you will have them to wear during Martin Luther King’s celebratory week and January 20th MLK March in Gainesville RJC does need more active members, as maybe great members are moving on after years of commitment and work for RJC.
We are a busy committee, often reaching out to help with events in the community and would love to have you join us. We meet on the second Tuesday evening of each month, from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Our meeting dates for the fall will be September 10, October 8, November 12 and December 10th. Come to a meeting and try us out!
