A New Worship Theme: The Not-So-Secret Garden!

A task force of the Lively Arts Committee—Daniel Webster, Nel Gammon Webster, Gwen Chrzanowski, and Mike Myers worked for many hours to create an indoor garden in our sanctuary!
The worship space (always beautiful) is now enhanced by a weaving by Jan Haase, several of our UCG banners, origami birds, bench, flowerpots, hanging baskets, and a beautiful flowered arbor.
One of the joys of worship at UCG is collaboration and creativity.

As Frances Hodgson Burnett wrote in The Secret Garden, our experience of worship during this peaceful summer theme will be an open space filled with beauty and mystery. “Sometimes since I’ve been in the garden I’ve looked up through the trees at the sky and I have had a strange feeling of being happy as if something was pushing and drawing in my chest and making me breathe fast. Magic is always pushing and drawing and making things out of nothing. Everything is made out of magic, leaves and trees, flowers and birds, badgers and foxes and squirrels and people. So it must be all around us. In this garden – in all the places.”

Worship with Us

Join us for Sunday Worship! Offered at 10 a.m. live in the Sanctuary or livestreamed on YouTube.

This Sunday we will enjoy our Annual “Church on the Prairie” Service on the grounds of the Alachua County Conservation Trust. The single service, beginning at 10 a.m., features The Hogtown Pickers, a youth skit, communion, and activities for children. A self guided service will be emailed for those unable to join us in person. Prairie Creek Lodge is located at 7204 SE County Road 234, Gainesville (about 25 minutes travel time from the church), see map here. If it rains, we will meet at the church! This is one of our most popular events of the year and we can’t wait to share it with you! Bring outdoor chairs/blankets, a potluck dish to share, and utensils (no foods for grilling), sunscreen, and bug spray (just in case). Water and lemonade will be provided. We’ll have the Hogtown Pickers, children’s and intergenerational activities. Sign up to help and bring potluck dishes here.

There is no Sunday Seminar for November 17:  instead we will have Church on the Prairie!
