Buildings and Grounds folks are primarily focusing on determining what our priorities will be on our list of essential repairs and improvements as funds become available. That entails having further discussions between members of the group as well as with other professionals. Carol Barron and Liz Harvey will meet with an engineer the first of March to review the topographical survey and site drawings and recommendations for how to proceed.
We participated in a seminar put on by the Capital Campaign Visioning Committee and were able to respond to questions posed by attendees. Thank you to Tim Martin and their committee for hosting and leading this discussion. We will have more of these as our process unfolds.
Erick Smith worked with Jim Harper of the Creation Justice Committee who wanted to plant a tree on the church campus to honor Andy. They decided to plant a flatwoods plum tree at the southwest corner of the Sanctuary building. Larry Alsobrook planted the tree along with 40 native butterfly plants. The area is visible from inside the Sanctuary on the right side facing the altar. We hope the plum will bloom soon!
Glenn Mans and Larry Alsobrook have dug another large hole in the northwest corner of the courtyard, removing all the impermeable material, and then filling the hole with drainage rock to help alleviate sidewalk flooding. This area receives the most roof runoff because of the convergence of the roofs in that corner. Larry has also done some more work in the memory garden to rectify roof runoff and flooding there. These guys are passionate about their work to help mitigate the drainage issues!
Liz and Lisa created a routine maintenance calendar. These services are fairly evenly spread over the course of a calendar year which should help with cash flow. In the process, we updated the vendor list with contact information.
Phoebe Papadi is making good progress in cleaning out and purging in closets and storage areas throughout the campus. Thank you to all of the folks from boards and committees who have come to do their part in that process. It is a work in progress and we’ll keep you posted.
