Our congregational process to consider whether the United Church of Gainesville will become a Creation Care, Climate Justice-oriented congregation continues, with great support from many of you and our boards and committees.
Now that we have considered how we can incorporate care for creation into the works and decision-making processes as a church and as individuals, we are invited to turn our hearts and minds to the justice components of our call. And we are invited to consider the following questions:
- With particular attention to socioeconomic factors such as race, class, and global inequality, how can our congregation research and inform ourselves about environmental justice issues at the local, state, national and/or global levels? And how can this awareness correspond to congregational advocacy and action?
Two ways you can immediately get involved are by supporting our Growing Hope Globally project, by shopping at our local farmers market, and by supporting our local food systems by buying your fresh partners from some of our dozen community partners. Simply look for the UCG logo at our partner booths, and be sure to let them know you are supporting our Grow Hope Global, Eat Local program.
The second way is to be informed by joining us at our C3J Movie Night on January 29th, where, from 7-9 pm we will watch and discuss the film “Before the Flood.” Come on out! Join the discussion, and help us consider our role in being good stewards of our environment as an act of faith.
