Community Weatherization Coalition Volunteer Training

In the worship service on Sunday October 10, Jerry Steinberg mentioned the good work of the Community Weatherization Coalition (CWC), which is hosting its volunteer training program at UCG in November (see flyer below).  Since its founding in 2008, CWC volunteers have helped residents of over 1,250 Alachua County homes to save hundreds of thousands of dollars on their utility bills.

UCG has been involved with CWC from the very beginning.  UCG people worked with the Action Network in 2006 to focus on the issue of high utility bills for people in low income groups, and  then  with GRU to bring together people from a variety of volunteer and government organizations to form the CWC.  UCG’s Social Justice Committee provided funds to put together the audit kits still used by CWC volunteers, and provided snacks and lunches for the first CWC trainings.  Nearly all of the first roughly 20 energy auditors trained by the CWC in 2008 were UCG members; several UCG members are still active volunteers, including Jerry Steinberg, Marianne Schmink, Mark Robinson, Jeff Shapiro, and Anne Casella.  Please consider joining us for this fun and impactful volunteer opportunity!
