Covid Advisory Team

The Covid Advisory Team is still at work, collecting reliable data every week so that we can make science-based recommendations to the leadership for how to safely re-emerge as a congregation.

We are constantly updating the UCG Pandemic Response Guidelines and the latest version (dated June 17, 2021) includes masking guidance for small groups. The Guidelines are color-coded according to the risk level announced in the “Weekly Coronavirus Report” within each Tuesday’s “E-vents at UCG”.

Thank you to all who responded to our Vaccination Survey last month. In case you missed it, here are the highlights:

  • There were 184 responses.
  • Nearly all the respondents reported they are fully vaccinated (181).
  • A few people are NOT planning to get their children or themselves vaccinated (reasons vary).
  • A majority of the respondents were women and people over age 65.
  • Almost two-thirds of the respondents had already attended a Sunday worship service in the courtyard.
  • Of those who have delayed attending Sunday worship services the top three reasons given were : (1) “Prefer the livestream/stay at home option”; (2) “Didn’t feel safe”; and (3) Tied for third place: “Lack of coffee hour/no opportunity for social connection” backed with “Services are too early.”

WHAT’S NEW? If you are still thinking about coming back to Sunday morning services but have not yet, here’s what you need to know:

  • Attendance ranges from 100-120 people each week, all spaced according to comfort level and family/friend units. The capacity of the Sanctuary is 286 so we are hovering at around 40 percent. Prior reservation is no longer necessary.
  • Service starts at 10AM and we will continue to Livestream and then make it available afterwards on YouTube.
  • Coffee hour in the courtyard has returned! Those who are vaccinated are welcome to remove masks if they wish; others are encouraged to keep masks on.
  • Sunday seminars have resumed in Reimer Hall with a simulcast on Zoom to include those at home. Check your weekly E-vents and Bulletin for the start time.
  • Because our youngest population is still at risk, we will continue to wear masks on Sunday during indoor gatherings. This includes the Sanctuary, West Wing, Office, Reimer Hall and Kitchen.

The Covid Advisory Team consists of the three ministers, moderator Donn Smith-Lopez, church administrator Lisa Goldstein, co-chairs Allan March and Dar Mikula, as well as several professionals from Gainesville’s medical and healthcare community: Ann Gill, Alan Keitt, Sally Kimberly, Janet March, and Danielle and Eric Nelson. The group meets at least once a month and will continue its work as long as the need persists.

Contact the Covid Advisory Team Co-Chair, Dar Mikula if you have any questions or feedback for the Covid Team.
