Gainesville Art Exhibit: August 27-October 19
The Gainesville Fine Arts Association (GFAA) will be hosting “HEAT,” their Biennial National juried exhibit, from August 27 to October 19, 2024. As part of this exhibit, they are partnering with UCG and other community groups to host climate change related events. They are located at 1314 S. Main Street in Gainesville.
Climate Book Discussion Group: September 9
On September 9 from 6-7 pm at The Lynx Bookstore, we will be discussing the book “The Heat Will Kill You First” by Jeff Goodall. Later, on September 28 at GFAA, the author will speak and do book signing. The book is available at The Lynx and other local bookstores. Discussion will be led by Allan March and Jackie Davis. Florida Friendly Landscaping: September 27 from 6pm to 10pm
As part of Art Walk, Gainesville Fine Arts Association will be hosting this event, 1314 SW Main St. There will be a free tree give away, tabling with Florida Friendly plants for purchase as well as information about Florida friendly landscaping, composting, and tree planting. Enjoy a tree planting demonstration and panel discussion. This event is sponsored by Creation Justice Committee of UCG, GFAA, Grow Hub, IFAS Master Gardeners, and the City of Gainesville. Time 6pm to 10pm.
Hawthorne Sustainability and Resilience Summit: September 28 from 9:30am to 3:30pm
Special guest speaker Ennis Jacobs, JD, President of the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy will discuss “Building Sustainable Climate Justice Solutions for Our Most Vulnerable Communities”. This will be followed by results of the county’s Climate Vulnerability Study and panels on Development and Conservation, Food and Health, and Weatherization moderated by mayors of Archer, High Springs, and Micanopy. Snacks, lunch, coffee and beverages provided.
