Spring is springing! Between the bouts of cold, we are all seeing the azaleas start to bloom and the bird song seems to be clearer as the days go by toward March. The little one and I have found ourselves gravitating after school to our own azalea bushes to see the bees. She loves seeing the bumble bees dive into the flowers and we talk about how they are helping our world, won’t sting us, and how cute their butts are sticking out of the flowers.
Busy bees, busy people, and busy how the days continue to keep coming. However, through all that busyness we still find time to walk across the yard and admire the flowers with bees. A small request from a small human to me, but it may be the biggest experience she had for the day. Or the biggest event she looks forward to, maybe even subconsciously to unbusy herself from the daycare day. Either way her excitement and smiles always melt away my need to get inside and get busy with dinner.
It makes me think about how our members take time out of their busy lives to be active in their church community. We have many boards and committees that seem to pop up like fresh flowers as we navigate our next chapter at UCG. Being on a board or committee may seem like a daunting task of time and effort but it is not the only options for helping UCG stay busy and buzzing. Please consider these following volunteer opportunities to try out next time you are at UCG! Or contact me with any questions on how to get involved.
- Lead a small group; the possibilities are endless to sharing your talents, knowledge, or sense of adventure with others. We offer small groups in the Fall-Winter and Spring-Summer. Contact the small groups committee on how to be a facilitator for the fall round.
- Be a Sunday morning Grusher. Greet and meet your fellow UCGers and friends as they come through the door on Sundays. It’s a great way to learn names and faces but also make connections with new faces. You can sign up to be a Grusher here.
- Play an instrument? Love to read poems or scripture to others? Consider reaching out to Chad McGinnis to let him know you are interested in helping with Sunday worship services.
- Want to help lead a Kids Night Out activity on a Friday night? Contact the Director of Children Ministries, Julia Crawford.
- Random acts of helpfulness – Look at the Tuesday emails or the sign up bulletin board near the front office on Sundays, to see if there are requests for the following.
- Kairos Meal Train Sign-ups
- Signing the Kairos cards on Sundays
- Help with setting up the Sanctuary for our labyrinth
- Bringing a dish to share at a potluck event, memorial service, or fundraising event
- Donating food to our Food First shopping cart on the first Sunday of every month
- Compassion in Action donations for giftbags twice a year and Angel Tree gifts
- UCG beatification days to our campus and parking lots
- Offer bulletin cover art. Sign up here.
Thank you to all of those involved and giving your time and talent at UCG! I look forward to longer days and spending time seeing what blossoms this spring.
Busy bee love,
