By the time you read this, the roofing project over the Education Wing and Reimer Hall will be well underway and we will no longer have to deal with one leak after another! And of course, the project does not just include a new roof; a big laurel oak had to be removed that was leaning over and on the Youth Room. That necessitated the removal of all the playground equipment on the north side in order to have bucket machine access to the tree. Andy organized a great group of volunteers to do that work. When the roof is complete and rotten wood and fascia has been replaced, that will be painted and new guttering and downspouts will go up. The playground needed to have the grade lowered to prevent rainwater from draining back towards the building so while the play equipment is out, that work will be done, drains installed to move the water away from the building, and then the area re-mulched. After the playground equipment is reinstalled (volunteers??) and the kiddos can return to their outdoor play. It will be time to celebrate!
Meanwhile we’re forming a Buildings and Grounds Subcommittee of the Board of Business to be in charge of keeping a good eye on our campus. Their first order of business will be to prioritize all of the repairs and maintenance and get cost estimates so that we can begin to plan for the care of our sacred space. In the next newsletter, we will introduce that special group of folks!
