The current boards and committees have been grouped together to form the five areas of spiritual, business and facilities, youth and children, connection, and outreach and justice. Stuart Huggard – “I was born and grew up in Blue Point, of oyster fame, on the south shore of Long Island, New York I went to college at Houghton College in western New York where I met my wife, Suzanne, in Latin class. After college we married and chose to live and start our careers and family in the area where I had lived. We have two daughters, two sons-in-law and four grandchildren. I taught English for 35 years to seventh graders and have the scars to prove it. We joined the Sayville Congregational UCC church in 1969 and there began a 55 year journey working, playing, learning, and growing in UCC churches. We moved to New Hampshire in 1997 when I retired and did it all again in another UCC church, the Deering Community Church. Colleen Anderson – “I was born in Atlanta, but I moved to Miami when I was only a year old. In Miami, my family attended UCCG, and when we moved to Gainesville in early 2015, we decided to get involved in UCG as well. I am going into my Junior year at GHS, where I am in both the Cambridge and Future Teacher programs. I am a girl scout, part of my school’s student government, and the founder and current president of my school’s Peer Tutoring Club. I was part of Gainesville’s first girl’s water polo team in the 2019-2020 school year, and hope to continue playing next year. I have a younger sister and an adorable puppy named Roxy.”

Connection
Helda Montero – “My journey to life here in Gainesville began in Medellin, Colombia. My mother and I later moved to Miami where I grew up amid the hustle and bustle of big city life. I came to Gainesville by way of UF in 1990. I was certain that my time in what seemed to me like a very small town would be over in 4 years. I predicted that perfectly, seeing how I have been here ever since! I am a trained mental health counselor and am a professor at Santa Fe College. Prior to this, I was a career counselor at the UF Career Resource Center and a mental health counselor at UF’s Student Health Care Center and Counseling Center. Along my path, and almost 20 years ago, I met my partner Andy Frenock, Jr, and together we have three wonderful children who have all been fortunate enough to grow up in our UCG community since 2007. I have been a member of the Board of Children’s Ministry, CIA, CMRB, the Ukulele Club, and assist with the planning of the Women’s Retreat. I find renewal in nature and in the process of creating.”

Born in Miami, I graduated from a small Presbyterian high school in Ft. Lauderdale and went to the big city at Columbia U. in NYC, where I majored in English. Did some teaching, came to UF in 1994 to study journalism, met my hubby and moved to Philly, then Miami. Did academic admin, environmental journalism and research. Choose to return to Gainesville in 2017 and work at UF in communications for international agriculture. I love animals, the ocean, and continue to compete in swimming as part of Gator Swim Club.
