Sunday June 6: “Enhancing Your Family Genealogy,” with Dr. Fletcher Crowe, a retired historian who has written a book on family genealogy – If you’ve ever thought about writing up your family genealogy, or improving a genealogy you already have, now is the time to do it. During the summer this year the Alachua County Library District is making available the famous ProQuest + Ancestry.com database of genealogy online, allowing you to access this incredible resource from your own home for free. This seminar will show you how to access this magic carpet to the world of your family’s past and will show you how to build a family tree that will delight your family for generations.
Sunday June 13: David Hackett– “Why Church Attendance is in Decline” with David Hackett – Over the last few decades participation in organized religion has declined across the board. What explains this? Individualism and generational change are likely reasons. Is there an antidote? Join David, a professor of religion at UF, as he offers his insight on this situation.
Sunday June 20: Bob Knight “The Crisis of Springs in North Florida” – Bob Knight is the well –known Executive Director of the Florida Springs Institute in High Springs, which is tracking the alarming drop in the output of the springs of North Florida. Should Nestlé be given a permit to remove 1 million gallons of water a day from the aquifer? Come hear the story of preserving our precious springs.
Sunday June 27: “Public Speaking” – UCG’s own Taylor Williams will speak about her forthcoming book on public speaking. She wants to help people re-define public speaking in a more broad and less scary way. Public speaking terrifies and isolates so many people. This book re-frames what public speaking can be, how we can get better at it, and how the ability to connect with others actually makes us better presenters. She will describe how to get over your fear of public speaking and confidently present yourself to the world.
