Dear United Church,
As I reflect on the past year, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the journey we’ve shared. Your generous retirement gift of a pilgrimage fund allowed me to embark on a transformative journey through Italy, walking the ancient path of the Via Francigena. This was my fifth pilgrimage, and though the circumstances of my life have changed significantly, the impact of this time apart for reflection and renewal has been transformative. Thank you.
Walking through the picturesque landscapes of Tuscany, I was reminded of the beauty and hardship of life’s journey and the importance of facing change and challenges with courage, hope, and a fair shake of humility. I was reminded of the importance of embracing new adventures. Each step served as a metaphor for our time together – the challenging climbs, the tricky descents, and the vast stretches of inspiration and awe. Each milestone is a point of pride, reminding me of the courage and fortitude we’ve embodied as a community of faith.
This pilgrimage came at a significant time, marking the one-year anniversary of my retirement from ministry at UCG. It has provided me with invaluable perspective, affirming the impact of our shared service and the enduring bonds of fellowship we’ve cultivated over the years. Your support and encouragement have been an inspiring source of strength, inviting me to embrace this next chapter with optimism and grace.
Thank you for your love and support, and thank you for accompanying me on this pilgrimage of life, working, weeping, laughing, and walking together. Thank you for allowing me to walk this path alongside you.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Andy Bachmann
