Pathfinder Implementation Committee – November 2024

As you know, the Pathfinder Committee spent this summer examining our church life and structure, and discerning recommendations for moving forward as a congregation.  Their final report produced a comprehensive list of recommended actions. The Church Council subsequently approved these recommendations with a few modifications (click here to read the final recommendations).

While the Congregation Ministry Review Board is charged with carrying out these recommendations, the list is far too long for that group to manage on top of their regular duties.  For this reason, the Pathfinder Implementation Committee (“PIC”) was formed with the charge to carry out the Pathfinder recommendations approved by Council.  The PIC is divided into two work groups, each with two teams focused on different tasks.

The Congregational Support Work Group includes: The Church Consultant team, charged with receiving and evaluating proposals from church consultants, and presenting those proposals to Church Council and the Congregation; and the Congregational Life Team, charged with drafting a behavioral covenant, and to coordinate church activities designed to build congregational connections.

The Organizational Structure and Policy Work Group includes: The Grievance Procedure Revisions Team, in charge of revising the UCG Grievance Procedure based on recent experiences with the process; and the Policy Team, charged with using the Pathfinder report and institutional knowledge to gather a list of current challenges with existing bylaws and policies, and to develop a list of questions and support needed from the consultant, Interim Minister, and others.

The PIC is coordinated by Tim Martin.  If you have any questions about the work of the committee, don’t hesitate to contact him at tamartin@ufl.edu.
