Racial Justice Committee – November 2024

The Racial Justice Committee invites you to join us at the Monteocha Historical Marker Unveiling Ceremony. Moses Smith, a victim of racial terror will be remembered. The Alachua County City Remembrance Project and Equal Justice Initiative have inspired this project. Dawn Beachy, UCG Racial Justice member, has been the mentor for remembrance quilts created by members of each community. Our committee has been cooperating with ACCRP since 2020.  Please join us on November 2. Wear your Black History Matters shirts to show our solidarity with this work.

Marker Unveiling Ceremony

The Racial Justice Committee (RJC) is planning several fall events. RJC members are also planning to present a fall banned book discussion group.  We do plan to continue selling our “new” Black History Matters shirts in November and December, so that you will have them to wear during Martin Luther King’s celebratory week and January 20 MLK March in Gainesville. RJC does need more active members, as great members are moving on after years of commitment and work for RJC. We are a busy committee, often reaching out to help with events in the community and would love to have you join us. We meet on the second Tuesday evening of each month, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Our meeting dates for the fall will be November 12 and December 10.  Come to a meeting and try us out!
