“Those whom we love and lose are no longer where they once were;
they are now wherever we are.” – St. John of Chrysostom

WELCOME – Rev. Andy Bachmann

MOMENT FOR MISSION- Kim Kruse

PRELUDE – “Life” by the Avett Brothers. Offered by Eric Nelson on cello and Andy Bachmann on guitar.

During our prelude, congregants will bring photographs of loved ones who have died to place them on our altars. You are invited to participate as well! Who do you mourn today? Who are the saints of your lives?

If you have the name of someone who has died this past year that you would like us to read aloud, please type that into the chat, and our tech coordinators will bring them to us.

A Prayer for the Loving Departed – Rev. Talia Raymond

“Your love was like the dawn brightening our lives.
Though we need to weep your loss,
You dwell in that safe place in our hearts
Where no storm or night or pain can reach you.
Now you dwell inside the rhythm of breath,
As close to us as we are to ourselves.
Let us not look for you only in memory.
You would want us to find you in presence,
Beside us when beauty brightens,
When kindness glows and music echoes eternal tones,
When darkest winter has turned to spring,
Until we see your face again in that place
Where there is no more separation
Where tears are wiped away and we will never lose you.”

RESPONSIVE READING – from Stephen Mitchell’s Psalm 90

Leader: Teach us how short our time is; let us know it in the depth of our souls.

People: Show us that all things are transient. Our days pass by in your midst; our years reverberate like a solemnly spoken word.

Leader: Fill us in the morning with your wisdom; shine through us all our lives.

People: Let our hearts grow transparent in the radiance of your love.

Leader: Show us how precious each day is; teach us to be fully here, and let the work of our hands prosper for a little while.
