Welcome, Prayers, Reading

Welcome – Tony Miller

Prayers of the People – Talia Raymond

Reading – adapted from “There Was A Child Went Forth” by Walt Whitman – read by Jan Adkins

There was a child went forth every day,
And the first object she looked upon and
received with wonder or pity or love or dread,
that object he became,
And that object became part of her for the day or
a certain part of the day . . . or for many years or stretching cycles of years.
The early lilacs became part of this child,
And the March born lambs,
And the field sprouts of April and May became
part of him,
And the appletrees covered with blossoms,
And all the changes of city and country wherever
she went.
The family usages, the language, the company,
the furniture . . . and the yearning and swelling heart,
The doubts of daytime and the doubts of
nighttime . . . the curious whether and how,
Whether that which appears so is so . . . Or is it
all flashes and specks?
The horizon’s edge, the flying seacrow, the
fragrance of saltmarsh and shoremud;
These became part of that child who went forth
every day, and who now goes and will always go
forth every day,
And these became part of him or her that peruses them
now.

Time with Children – “Because Nothing Looks Like God,” by Lawrence and Karen Kushner – read by Keri Trosper

Hey kids, join us for activity time!

Special Music, Scripture, and Sermon

Special Music – “Wayfaring Stranger” performed by Ned Stewart

I am a poor wayfaring stranger
While traveling through this world of woe
Yet there’s no sickness, toil, or danger
In that bright world to which I go

I’m going there to see my Father
I’m going there no more to roam
I’m only goin’ over Jordan
I’m only goin’ over home

I know dark clouds will gather ’round me
I know my way is rough and steep
Yet beautious fields lie just before me
Where God’s redeemed there vigils keep

I’m going there to see my Mother
She said she’d meet me when I come
I’m only goin’ over Jordan
I’m only goin’ over home

I’m just goin’ over Jordan
I’m just goin’ over home
