“Love is the whole thing. We are only pieces.” – Rumi

“Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.” – Maya Angelou

WELCOME – Rev. Talia Raymond

PRELUDE – Offered by Shirell Hix, Native American flute, Shelby Havens and Karol Halter, drums

CALL TO WORSHIP – adapted from enfleshed

ONE:  Listen. Divine Love beckons us saying:

ALL:   Arise, beloveds, and come away.

ONE:  God draws our attention in body and spirit toward what is healing, what is good, what is true.

ALL:   Alive to desire, we cannot settle for ways of life that deaden and destroy.

ONE:  Our hearts set, we pursue life abundant.

ALL:  With passion, we chase the sound of Love and search high and low for justice. Amen.

OPENING SONG – “The Gift of Love”

( ) = high voices echo proceeding phrase

Though I may speak with bravest fire,
And have the gift to all inspire,
And have not love, my words are vain,
As sounding brass, and hopeless gain.

Though I may give all I possess,
And striving so my love profess,
But not be giv’n by love within,
The profit soon turns strangely thin.

Come, Spirit, come, ( ) our hearts control ( ),
Our spirits long ( ) to be made whole ( ).
Let inward love ( ) guide every deed ( );
By this we worship ( ), and are freed ( ).

ANOTHER SCROLL – Selections from “The Odes of Solomon”

SERMON – “An Othered Scroll”- Rev. Talia Raymond

FINAL SONG – “The Rose”

Some say love, it is a river
that drowns the tender reed.
Some say love, it is a razor
that leaves the heart to bleed.
Some say love, it is a hunger,
an endless aching need;
I say love, it is a flower;
and you, its only seed.

It’s the heart, afraid of breaking
that never learns to dance.
It’s the dream, afraid of waking
that never takes the chance.
It’s the one who won’t be taken
who cannot seem to give;
And the soul, afraid of dying
that never learns to live.

When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long,
And you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong,
Just remember, in the winter
far beneath the bitter snows,
Lies the seed that with the sun’s love,
in the spring, becomes the Rose.

June 2 COVID Update -Waiting on information – Although the COVID-19 virus is still detectable in nearly all Alachua County wastewater samples, the levels remain low. Also, the test positivity rate of 6.9% indicates that the virus is not spreading rapidly. These data suggest that County residents have a low risk of serious illness from COVID (the green zone). For churchgoers, N-95 and KN-95 masks are not required but should be considered by people with medical risks (and people over age 65) who have not received a bivalent booster within the last 6 months.
