Coffee and conversation – Our interim minister, Rev. Dr. Donna Schaper, invites you to join her this Sunday morning from 9-9:45 a.m. in Reimer Hall for coffee and conversation. Childcare will be available at 8:45 a.m. This will be the last in the series of “Ministerial Mornings” for this month.

Coffee Church will be held in Reimer Hall at 10 a.m. as an alternative space to the Sanctuary. The service will be livestreamed on the big screen TV and coffee and tea will be available. Join us if you want to eat and drink and be together in a less-crowded room for the service.

Attention puzzle lovers – Stop by the Puzzlers’ Table today in the courtyard. Take home some puzzles, which can be a great substitute for TV watching, and good for your brain! You can bring puzzles to swap, or not; we have plenty to share.

Sunday Seminar – “Buckle Up” with Paul Licata, PhD. (Multimedia Holocaust Literature). Join us at 11:30 a.m. for a PowerPoint presentation on some casually observed coincidences highlighting similarities in the transitions from the post WWI Weimar Republic to the rise of Hitler and Nazism and the post WWII evolution of America to the rise of Donald Trump and the Maga movement. The presentation includes glimpses of artistic, economic and the social expansion and contraction of liberal to radical right values. In person in Reimer Hall or on Zoom.

Resilience for Immigrants – The Justice League is collecting supplies for the Rural Women’s Health Project. They advocate to help women with infants and small children whose partners have been detained or deported by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Please bring donations to Seminar C during office hours or on Sundays. Financial donations are also appreciated at www.rwhp.org. Supplies needed: dry beans (pinto and black), rice, maseca flour (tortilla flour available at Publix), diapers (size 1 – 5), and formula.

Convergence Update – In January, the consulting group Convergence joined us for a weekend of activities, including a sermon and seminar by Rev. Cameron Trimble. We originally intended to vote on their full proposal at the Winter Congregational Meeting but set that aside temporarily since the Rev. Dr. Donna Schaper was joining us as interim. Here is the report that Rev. Trimble provided after the event: https://bit.ly/labreport25.  As discussed at the Spring Congregational Meeting by Rev. Schaper, we will move forward with a contract with Convergence for a comprehensive church assessment at a rate of $5,000. The funding already exists via a disbursement from the Board of Endowment. More information will be forthcoming once the details are worked out.

Food First Sunday is June 1 – Thank you for your commitment to this important ministry!  Donations of nonperishable food items immensely help those experiencing food insecurity in our community. Leave donations in the shopping cart outside the Sanctuary next Sunday before the worship service. If you forget to bring your donations or prefer to donate online click here.

Join UCG’s Open and Affirming Committee at our next “Open and Affirming Sunday Social.” Come get to know members of UCG in a fun and inclusive environment, hosted by ONA. The next Sunday Social will be at 5 p.m. on June 8. We will gather at Anne Casella’s (2245 NW 24th Ave.) for a potluck pool party. Great food and fun – don’t miss out! Families welcome!

UCG Directory – The Board of Membership encourages members to wear their name tags and upload a photo of themselves in our ShelbyNext online directory. This helps us put a face to a name and get to know one another. It is also helpful when individuals sign up for boards/committees, small groups, etc. To view your profile, go to https://bit.ly/UCGSNLog.
