“It doesn’t matter if you’re a frog or a pig or a bear or even a person. It doesn’t matter if you’re a big fish in a little pond or a small fish in a big pond – you’re you and you matter.” – Kermit the Frog
WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS – Rev. Chad McGinnis
PRELUDE – “Ashokan Farewell” by Jay Unger – Angela Mickle, cello
CALL TO WORSHIP – from “Litany for Becoming” by Rev. M. Jade Kaiser – offered by Rev. Talia Raymond
ONE: To become is a lifelong process. Nothing is constant, not even the self. We evolve in the midst of narratives meant only for some and ways of being made narrow by fear and power. We must, then, have the courage to listen to the truth of our own lives, to the wisdom that comes from within – responding without resistance or need to control, but with welcome and curiosity. This is what ensures our becoming is an unfolding of our truest self. This lifelong labor cannot be carried out alone. It requires help from friends, and lovers, family, and creaturely companions who bear witness to what makes us come alive. And say to us, “Listen. Look. Feel. Pay attention to that.”
ALL: This is loving and being loved.
ONE: Telling the stories. Sharing in the memories. Giving thanks for the relationships, understandings, and experiences past that have shaped us to this day.
ALL: This is loving and being loved.
ONE: Celebrating new beginnings that excite. Holding risks together. Leaning into unknowns with the promises of support and companionship.
ALL: This is loving and being loved.
ONE: Listening to the future calling uniquely to each of us in the midst of all of life’s noise. Helping one another find our place in the shared labor of collective life. Supporting each other in what it is the world’s ache is asking from us.
ALL: This is loving and being loved.
ONE: To say, for the first time, “This is who I am. This is the truth of my body. This is what I know about myself. This is my name and this is where my path is leading me.” And to have it heard. Have it received. Have it affirmed. And then, to say it again, and again, as we change and as the world changes, and to have each proclamation greeted with an open-armed embrace:
ALL: This is loving and being loved.
ONE: There is no me without you. We shape one another. The Sacred that birthed us weaves our lives together so that we can only find ourselves through shared becoming. For my journey and all its winding ways. For yours. For all the saints who labored for what is, all the kin whose lives made ours possible. For all those yet to come for whom living our truths today will mean breaking possibilities open for them tomorrow: We pause. We give thanks. We acknowledge.
ALL: This is loving and being loved.

CLOSING SONG – “Servant Song” #61 UCG Songbook
Neighbor, let me be your servant
Let me be as grace to you
Pray that I may have the grace
To let you be my servant, too
We are pilgrims on a journey
We are neighbors on the road
We are here to help each other
Walk the mile and bear the load
I will hold the grace light for you
In the night-time of your fear
I will hold my hand out to you
Speak the peace you long to hear
I will weep when you are weeping
When you laugh’ I’ll laugh with you
I will share your joy and sorrow
Till we’ve seen this journey through

Sanctuary Foyer Art – Please take time to enjoy the original art in the foyer featuring local artist Skip Snow, a retired biologist and member of Gainesville Fine Arts Association.
Help with Chair Setup – In preparation for the Town Hall, we need a few volunteers to help move Sanctuary chairs into a circle. Meet Dar and Zakara in the front row immediately following the service.
Sunday Seminar – We welcome Chelsea Bowlin and her team from Partnership for Strong Families. They are the lead child welfare agency in the area providing both foster care and adoption services. May is National Foster Care Month, and this seminar will provide information about the foster care crisis in Florida and answer questions about how we can help support this vulnerable population. Please come and learn more about this important issue, near and dear to many of our members’ hearts. Join us at 11:30 a.m. in Reimer Hall or via Zoom. Zoom meeting ID: 829 6457 0385 Passcode: 1624
Town Hall – The Lay Leadership and Ministers will hold a Church-wide Town Hall to discuss the staffing restructure, tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary or via Zoom. Zoom meeting ID: 811 3001 2335. Passcode: 1624
Noodles and Doodles brought oodles of fun to our church last Sunday! The youth group is deeply grateful to all who donated and purchased amazing art and enjoyed a wonderful meal together. We raised just over $5,000 for our summer work tour. If you missed the event, there are still some pieces of art looking for new homes. You can peruse them in Reimer Hall before or after the service this morning. They are yours for a donation in any amount to our Youth Work Tour. Thank you for your support of our amazing Youth United!
Patience Please – Shanna Swiers will be on vacation all this week, returning Tuesday, May 14. Rev. Bromleigh McCleneghan will also be away. Our interim support staff person, Dar Mikula, will be in the office 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. working on several projects and answering phones. We ask you to please be patient with email or voicemail responses, which may be delayed due to the limited staff.
Parents’ Night Out – May 10, 5:30 – 9:30 p.m., UCG Education Wing. Children (infants through 5th grade) are invited for a night of pizza and fun. $15 for the first child, and $10 for each additional child. RSVP by noon on Thursday, May 9 to juliac@ucgainesville.org.
UCG Supper Club – The last supper club of the year will take place on Saturday, May 18 at Jim and Lisa McElwee-White’s home on Kanapaha Prairie. Rather than being assigned a recipe, you will be assigned a category (appetizer, salad, side or dessert) and can bring whatever you wish. We also request that you bring your own place settings and your own beverage so we only need to collect money to reimburse Jim for the meat he will barbecue (no charge for vegetarians). Please contact Anne Casella (annecasella@gmail.com, 352-256-5960) or Kimberly McCollough (kmccollough224@gmail.com, 352-378-8371) if you would like to participate. The deadline to sign up is today.

Looking Ahead
The Capital Campaign Visioning Task Force recently received the results of the capital campaign feasibility study. In short, the consultant determined that our estimated “probability of success” was 62%, which she characterized as “typical” for churches preparing for capital campaigns. The study identified several areas where additional communication and clarification would be helpful for better preparing the church for a successful campaign. The summarized results can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/UCGfeasibility.
The newly created position of Director of Communications is now posted on indeed.com. Please share this listing widely with those who may be a good fit for the role – bit.ly/ucgdocpost24.
