INVOCATION                                                     That you have made me in the image of your own mystery
Thanks be to you, O God.
That in the soul of every human being
There are depths beyond naming
And heights greater than knowing
Thanks be to you.
Grant me the grace of inner sight this day
That I may see you as the self within all selves.
Grant me the grace of love this day
That amidst the pain and disfigurement of life
I may find the treasure that is unlocked by love,
The faith that moves mountains;
That amidst the pain and disfigurement of my own life
I may know the richness that lies buried in the human soul,
The abundant power of my hope.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE – Rev. Chad McGinnis

SCRIPTURE – Two Teachings from Jesus – Allison LeBaron

From Luke 21:

He looked up and saw rich people putting their gifts into the treasury; he also saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. He said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; for all of them have contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in all she had to live on.”

And from Matthew 17:

[Jesus answered,] “Truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’, and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”

READING – “On Angels” – Rev. Bromleigh McCleneghan

All was taken away from you: white dresses,
wings, even existence.
Yet I believe you,
Messengers.

There, where the world is turned inside out,
a heavy fabric embroidered with stars and beasts,
you stroll, inspecting the trustworthy seams.

Short is your stay here:
now and then at a matinal hour, if the sky is clear,
in a melody repeated by a bird,
or in the smell of apples at the close of day
when the light makes the orchards magic.

They say somebody has invented you
but to me this does not sound convincing
for the humans invented themselves as well.

The voice — no doubt it is a valid proof,
as it can belong only to radiant creatures,
weightless and winged (after all, why not?),
girdled with the lightning.

I have heard that voice many a time when asleep
and, what is strange, I understood more or less
an order or an appeal in an unearthly tongue:
day draws near
another one
do what you can.

Sunday Seminar – “Your Gut Microbiome, Health, and Emotional Wellbeing” with Bruce Stevens. People are composed of equal numbers of human cells and bacterial cells with intermingling activities. We co-evolved to be metaorganisms whose diet and behaviors alter our microbiome, which in turn steers medical and emotional states such as cardiovascular disease, depression, and anxiety. Even certain COVID-19 symptoms result from virus disruption of the gut microbiome. Bruce Stevens, UF College of Medicine professor emeritus and UCG member, will discuss the gut microbiome including recent human studies from his own lab. Join us in Reimer Hall or via Zoom. Zoom Meeting ID: 829 6457 0385 Passcode: 1624

May 5 COVID Update –  According to the CDC, Alachua County residents have a low risk of serious illness from COVID-19 (the Green Zone). Hospital admissions remain low.  However, the presence  of the virus in all of the County’s wastewater samples show that COVID-19 is still being passed around. Masks are not required and are optional for people with medical risks.
