“For the first time, but certainly not the last, I began to believe that Arsenal’s moods and fortunes somehow reflected my own.” ~ Nick Hornby, in Fever Pitch

WELCOME – Rev. Bromleigh McCleneghan PRELUDE — Phillip Herr-Klepacki CALL TO WORSHIP – Rev. Talia Raymond (Please read along with the bolded text) God is calling usOut of the places we hideOut of insecurityOut of shameOut from under that which silences love and justice.Come out, people of God! Though we may be afraidThough we will be at riskThough the cross stands as a threatGod calls us to courage! Our God is a god of resurrection.Of new life after devastation. Of hope in the grip of evil. And so we dare to proclaim, with pride and faith, our truths: We believe in the power of love.We believe in solidarity with the suffering. We believe we are each valuable. We believe that our togetherness is transformative. The world is longing for Holy truths that reveal, voices that speak real words of hope.Come out, people of God! – from enfleshedOPENING SONG – “Let Us Hope When Hope Seems Hopeless”  TIME WITH THE CHILDREN – Rev. But I went to Chelsea and to Tottenham and to Rangers and saw the same thing: that the natural state of a football fan is bitter disappointment, no matter what the score.” from “A Theology of Liberation” by Gustavo Gutiérrez “The Bible is the book of the Promise, the Promise made by God to human beings, the efficacious revelation of God’s love and self-communication; simultaneously, it reveals humankind to itself. . . . [One biblical scholar] says that ‘this Promise lies behind the whole Bible, and makes it the book of hope, the slight hope stronger than experience . . . which persists through all trials and is reborn to greater strength after every setback.’ ” SPECIAL MUSIC and OFFERING — “All the Way” by Eddie Vedder — offered by Adam Hill Your gifts support all facets of the UCG community. September 29 Covid Update

The levels of COVID-19 virus in Alachua County’s wastewater samples have increased 10-fold in the past week, likely due to the large numbers of visitors attending the last two Gator home football games. There is no data regarding the number of new cases of COVID in the County.

People over age 65 and people with compromised immunity are encouraged to get one of the updated mRNA vaccines that are now available in local pharmacies. Free at-home rapid antigen test kits are now available by contacting covidtest.gov. The kits are typically sent out in 7-12 days.

In the sanctuary N-95 or KN-95 masks are strongly encouraged for people at risk for serious illness from COVID, for people who live with someone at increased risk, and for people who have any respiratory tract symptoms. The KN-95 masks are available in the foyer.
