Sunday Seminars – January 2024

The UCG Sunday Seminar Committee is proud to announce a line-up of January seminars we are certain you will enjoy. Seminars are in-person and on Zoom on Sundays at 11:30 a.m.

 

January 7 – The Real Cost of War – Paul Pritchard will speak about his experience from his published book on Vietnam as well as the history of war from a sociological and historical perspective. He is a retired military intelligence officer, in addition to his past career in conservation leading several national nonprofits in Washington, DC.

 

January 14 – Dr. Rik Stevenson, a historian in the Department of African American Studies at University of Florida, presents a talk on “Challenging Academic and Political Prohibitions in Florida.”

 

January 21 – “Shadows of Emmett Till” – Bob Newman will discuss his photo book on Emmett Till, which showcases archival images of Jim Crow times, Emmett Till, his funeral, the trial of Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam for Till’s murder, and selected civil rights images related to Emmett Till. The book also includes contemporary photographs of areas of the Mississippi Delta that remain from that era, as well as essays, poems, and maps that provide context for the photographs.

 

January 28 – No Sunday seminar. Congregational meeting immediately following the service.
