Join us on Sunday mornings at 10:30 am, either in Reimer Hall or through the link that comes out in each Sunday worship bulletin.
March 6– Artist Joon Thomas will share their insights and process around their work, including a tour of the beautiful installation of sacred script with calligraphic artistry that has been in our Sanctuary for the past month. Joon says, “My first calligraphic teaching was in the Perso-Arabic script, writing out lines of Persian poetry in elementary school. Our teacher would walk around the class, cut a nib on each student’s reed pen, and write out a line of poetry at the top of a notebook page. Then, we would lean over our pages, copying the line of poetry over and over again. What a mess of indelible blots we made with those reed pens dipped in bottles of ink! Over the years, I have added to my repertoire of scripts and languages, and studied brush painting and printmaking. In Gainesville I teach students and create work for clients all over the world. However, I still use the same basic tools: hand-cut reed pens, metal dip pens with reservoirs, Chinese brushes, thin strips of veneer or even my fingers.”
Come learn more about Joon’s process, and hear the inspiration behind our new sanctuary art.
March 13- Kairos Ministry – Have you ever wondered who the thoughtful folks are who set up our care cards every Sunday, inviting us to send an encouraging word or message of love to members in need? Ever been curious about how our church of 600 people can still find a way to provide personal care and thoughtful concern for one another? Have you ever received a casserole from the church or wondered how you might be able to share your casserole with others? Well, this Sunday, you can learn all about our ministry of care through the Kairos Committee.
March 20- “What’s Ripping American Families Apart” – Times are tough all over. And in these years of separation, both physical and political, it is time for each of us to do a personal assessment of how we can better serve our friends, our family, and our community while still retaining our sense of self and purpose. Join members of our Seminar Committee as we draw inspiration from the David Brooks article, “What’s Ripping American Families Apart.” He writes, “At least 27 percent of Americans are estranged from a member of their own family, and research suggests about 40 percent of Americans have experienced estrangement at some point.” Share your thoughts and join us as we consider this critical framework of understanding our American society, and how we might find comfort and support in these difficult times.
March 27- Learn About Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetary – Join us to welcome Carlos Gonzalez, the Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery executive director. Carlos will share insights based on his experiences through green burial and the process by which we can return our bodies to the earth by doing less harm and more good for it and us. In addition, he is prepared to answer any questions you might have about green burial and the Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery. Join us as we welcome Carlos!
