United Tribes – January 2022

Hello Families!

Welcome to a new year in new Tribes rooms!  Our construction has been completed and there are many fun and exciting things on our calendars.  We hope your child(ren) will be able to join us.

January 2- Annual Pajama and Movie Day in Youth Room upstairs during Tribes time.  Children are welcomed to bring blankets, stuffed animal, etc.

January 9- This will be the children’s first day inside the new spaces! Lesson- Creating New Welcomes- Taking positive actions in the new spaces in our life.  Activity will center around creating welcomes to our upcoming open house when children will be able to welcome the larger church into our newly improved children’s church home.

January 16- Tribes will be both indoor and outdoor with a brief scripture, story, and team building exercise.

January 23– Children will finish their greeting activity from 1/9 and prepare to host open house to the church.  The church at large will be invited to come view our new classrooms from 10:15-11:15 between services.  An Amazon wish list link will be available before then with remaining items the space could potentially benefit from.  People are welcome to bring wrapped “housewarming” gifts to our new space.  The children will open the gifts and place them in the space.  Children will also have created thank you cards for the various people who made these renovations happen.

Handouts available this day will include:

  • List of improvements done with list of future improvements that are in the works
  • Calendar of upcoming events in Tribes
  • How to help our children and our space- I.e. Wishlist link, How to join BCYF, how to volunteer, how to be a guide, etc….

January 30- Slime Soup, an interactive storytelling experience built around the Stone Soup story.  Don’t leak the concept because the kids won’t know they’re making slime until they have figured it out through the story.  The intention is to begin a discussion of Social Justice.

February 6- Social Justice in the Bible – This Tribes lesson will focus on the ways in which the Bible has called us to social justice, and the examples of how social justice has been carried out.

February 13- BCYF Hosts Social Justice Sunday – BCYF will shed light on one of UCG’s Social Justice projects.  BCYF will read the children’s story regarding that group, and have a linking activity that benefits that group that the kids complete.

We look forward to the start of a wonderful year with all of you!

Blessings,

Keri Trosper and UCG Children’s Programs
