Last summer’s Pathfinder subcommittee report recommended the creation of a behavioral covenant for United Church of Gainesville. According to our denomination, a Behavioral Covenant is “a written document created by a community of faith, agreed to and owned by the community, and practiced on a daily basis as a spiritual discipline. It is a way of developing common language, common commitments, and an awareness of healthy behaviors that build community.”
The Congregational Life Team has been hard at work since the fall working to draft a behavioral covenant for UCG. The team has received input from 128 UCG members at a “Chalk Talk” during a Sunday service and the Men’s Retreat in November, led the January 12th Sunday service, and presented a seminar to 40 participants. This spring, we are visiting UCG boards and committees to get feedback on the behavioral covenant draft, hosting a table in the courtyard after worship where folks can ask questions and share feedback, and planning a seminar on May 5. UCG members can read a draft of the behavioral covenant here, some FAQS here, and some discussion/reflection questions here. Thank you to everyone who’s already shared their thoughts!
